Just off Highway 427 lies a massive, intricate, hand-carved building known as the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir complex.
It’s a religious and cultural centre for the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha – also known as BAPS – Hindu sect within the Swaminarayan movement. The building itself was made according to traditional, thousand-year-old Indian engineering techniques that avoid the use of steel or nails. Carved entirely by hand, it is a marvel made of marble and limestone.
