85 St. George Street may look like an ordinary Toronto campus building, but it quietly played a role in one of the most recognizable films of the 1990s.

While Good Will Hunting is famously set in Boston, several scenes were actually filmed at Whitney Hall in Toronto. The film went on to earn Matt Damon and Ben Affleck their first Academy Award and became a defining cultural moment for both actors.
It’s one of many places across the city where Toronto has doubled as somewhere else entirely — a hidden layer of movie history hiding in plain sight.
