“I had a dream. I was walking to the ballpark with Devon White. It was kind of dark and we came up on the stadium. When I looked up, the lights lit up and it said, ‘Welcome to the SkyDome.’” – Joe Carter
Toronto was beginning to see itself as a “world class” city in the early 1990s – and the Jays’ first World Series title in 1992 confirmed it. But could they repeat the feat? Many of their star players were free agents eligible to join other teams. Beloved slugger Joe Carter was torn between returning to the Jays or joining his hometown Kansas City Royals. He only decided to re-sign with Toronto after waking from a prophetic dream about the SkyDome. When he woke up, his backyard was filled with blue jays, which he took to be a sign from God. That season, he would author one of the most dramatic moments in baseball history – the only player ever to hit a come-from-behind game-winning home run to clinch the World Series.
