Panel Talk: Home Game – Breaking Boundaries: Women Changing the Game

A powerful panel on how women are reshaping basketball in Toronto..on the court, in leadership, and in culture.

In 2024, Toronto made history as the first city outside the U.S. to announce a WNBA team. But this milestone is only one part of the bigger picture.

Join us for a dynamic conversation with four trailblazers in sport:

Katie Heindl – basketball writer and cultural critic, moderating the discussion
Mery Andrade – Former WNBA player and Assistant Coach, Toronto Raptors
Tamara Tatham – Olympian and head coach of the University of Toronto Varsity Blues
Ainka Jess – founder of She’s4Sports and longtime advocate for gender equity in sport

Together, they’ll explore how gender roles, norms, and power dynamics shape the world of sport, especially basketball. What are the opportunities and challenges facing women athletes and leaders today? And what makes women’s basketball in Toronto so powerful, timely, and unique?
