Led by Museum of Toronto curators and special guest Sarah Bay-Cheng and Perry King, the tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at the stories, artifacts, and community histories that make up Toronto’s love affair with basketball.
From grassroots courts to Raptors glory, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for how the sport has shaped and been shaped by our city.
About the Co-Curators
Sarah Bay-Cheng, PhD is Professor at the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Toronto. She is an Adjunct Professor and former Dean at the Theatre & Performance Studies at York University’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD). Bay-Cheng served as Chair of Theater and Dance at Bowdoin College and as the Founding Director for the Techne Institute for the Arts and Emerging Technologies at the University at Buffalo. In 2015, Bay-Cheng was a Fulbright Scholar in Media and Cultural Studies at Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
Perry King is an author, freelance journalist and communications strategist currently based in Toronto. With a literary focus on sports, education, history and urbanism, King has bylines with Sportsnet, the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, The Narwhal, Spacing Magazine and BBC, among other places. His debut book, Rebound: Sports, Community and the Inclusive City, was published in 2021 by Coach House Books.
